Murgon RSL Welfare

David Piggott, our esteemed volunteer RSL Sub Branch Welfare Officer, diligently provides welfare support to ex-service members in alignment with RSL Queensland Branch’s mission, policies, and regulatory obligations.

Our Sub Branch specialises in securing lifestyle assistance for veterans, offering a wide array of community support services to enhance daily living. Our experienced Welfare Officers extend support in various areas, including:

  • Diverse assistance for veterans
  • Crisis intervention
  • Carer support
  • Transport for medical treatment to larger regional and city hospitals for veterans and families unable to access through DVA and advice on how to arrange for those who are eligible to use the DVA service.
  • Accommodation for families while a veteran is in hospital
  • Funeral poppy services
  • Advice on accessing Counselling services for veterans and their families
  • Home maintenance for veterans
  • Veterans’ home care and yard maintenance
  • Advice for independent living – aids – Mobile Alarm Pendants
  • Assistance with veteran housing including local Independent Living Units
  • Veterans’ affairs networks

Our Welfare Officer will provide support by:

  • Conducting interviews on welfare matters for the ex-service organization.
  • Referring veterans to the appropriate authorities for relevant assistance.
  • Staying updated on DVA matters and available local services.
  • Attending training sessions regularly.
  • Conducting home and hospital visits as necessary.
  • Representing the organization at approved Funerals and relevant ESO ceremonies.
  • Establishing connections and collaborating with other organizations and service providers.
  • Upholding strict confidentiality at all times.
